COVID-19 Update Week #7 (July 25–31)
Trout Week 7 COVID Update:
On Sunday prior to camper arrival, we had one leader from a rental group test positive for COVID – he had been on our grounds less then 24 hours and only had contact with our rental group leadership. He was sent home, and 4 staff who had close contact with him from that rental group were put into quarantine.
On Tuesday we had one Timber Ridge camper test positive for COVID. We received a call that her parents had tested positive at home, so we quickly tested the camper and found out that, although there were no symptoms, that camper was positive as well. We immediately sent that camper home, and following MDH guidelines, many of the campers in that cabin that were unvaccinated, close contacts were also sent home. Additionally, we called every camper parent of adjacent cabins to let them know what had happened. Our other two camps - The Point and Wild Woods – were not affected by this event as they are on completely different properties and there was no crossover between camps and events.
On Friday we had one full-time staff member (who was vaccinated) test positive for COVID. He was sent home, and two of his departmental staff were put into quarantine.
As you know, this summer we are still using cohorts and distancing between cabin groups as our main COVID mitigation plan. We feel this plan was a key element in helping us successfully contain and navigate these incidents. The MDH is also aware of these cases and has been helping us to make the correct decisions moving forward. Just short of 90% of our summer and full-time staff have been vaccinated.
